Frequently Asked Questions
-
Ward & Vale is a private clothing and wardrobe service specializing in made-to-measure tailoring, custom casualwear, personal styling, and wardrobe management for men and women. We create clothing around the individual—from measurements and fit to fabric, design, lifestyle, and personal style.
-
Ward & Vale creates custom clothing for nearly every part of the wardrobe, including suits, sport coats, trousers, shirts, denim, formalwear, outerwear, and elevated casual pieces.
Our approach isn't limited to traditional business attire. We can build everything from a boardroom wardrobe or black-tie look to a beautifully fitted pair of jeans, casual jacket, or clothing for a weekend in the mountains.
-
Our core custom clothing is made-to-measure. Each garment is individually created using your measurements, fit preferences, fabric selection, and design specifications rather than being altered from an existing off-the-rack garment.
For select women's formal and special-occasion pieces, Ward & Vale also offers individually designed couture services.
-
Nearly every element can be considered—from fabric, fit and silhouette to lapels, pockets, buttons, linings, collars, cuffs, stitching, trouser details, and finishing touches.
You won't be expected to make dozens of design decisions alone. We guide the process and recommend details that make sense for the garment, your proportions, and your personal style.
-
Not at all. Most clients don't—and that's part of our role.
We learn how you dress, what you gravitate toward, what you dislike, how you want clothing to fit, and where you'll actually wear it. From there, we narrow the possibilities and present recommendations specifically for you.
-
We begin with a private consultation to discuss your wardrobe, lifestyle, preferences, and needs. Measurements are taken, fabrics and design details are selected, and your garment is individually ordered.
Once it arrives, we conduct a fitting and make any necessary refinements before considering the garment complete. Your measurements and fit information are retained to make future orders increasingly seamless.
-
Pricing varies based on fabric, construction, and design. As a general starting point:
Custom Shirts — $200+
Custom Trousers — $300+
Custom Jeans — $450+
Custom Sport Coats — $999+
Custom Outerwear — $999+
Custom Suits — $1,250+
Many clients select fabrics and specifications that place their suits around $2,000 and above.
-
Most made-to-measure garments require several weeks from finalizing your measurements and design to delivery and fitting. Timing varies depending on the garment, fabric, and season.
For weddings, travel, black-tie events, or other date-specific occasions, we recommend beginning as early as possible.
-
Yes. This is one of the greatest advantages of custom clothing.
Rather than expecting your body to conform to a predetermined size, we account for your individual proportions, posture, preferences, and the way you want the garment to feel and move.
-

Ward represents the tailored side of the wardrobe—suiting, sport coats, trousers, formalwear, and refined professional clothing.
Vale brings the same attention to the more relaxed side of life—denim, casual shirting, knitwear, outerwear, five-pocket trousers, and elevated everyday clothing.
Together, Ward and Vale allow us to build a wardrobe that works beyond a single occasion or dress code.
-
No. Not yet! Ward & Vale is intentionally built around a private-service model rather than traditional retail.
Appointments are arranged privately, allowing the experience to be more personal, efficient, and centered entirely around the client.
-
Depending on the service and location, appointments may take place in your home, office, or another private setting. Certain consultations and styling appointments can also be completed virtually.
-
We discuss your profession, lifestyle, travel, social calendar, existing wardrobe, fit preferences, favorite pieces, frustrations, and what you want your wardrobe to accomplish. From there, we identify what's missing and recommend where to begin. We then take your measurements and get you started!
-
You don't need to build an entire wardrobe at once.
Some clients begin with one exceptional garment. Others come to Ward & Vale specifically to develop a wardrobe over time. We recommend beginning with the pieces that will make the greatest difference.
-
Yes. Our Wardrobe Edit evaluates your existing closet to determine what should stay, what could benefit from alterations, what is no longer serving you, and what is missing.
From there, we can create outfits using pieces you already own and make strategic recommendations to complete the wardrobe.
-
No. While custom Ward & Vale garments often form the foundation, our styling services can incorporate ready-to-wear clothing, footwear, accessories, and specialty pieces from other designers.
Our responsibility is to build the right wardrobe, not simply sell more clothing.
-
Yes. We offer concierge sourcing for ready-to-wear pieces, shoes, accessories, and difficult-to-find items—particularly when they complete an outfit or fill a need that doesn't warrant being made custom.
-
Yes. Our Event Styling service is designed around a particular occasion, dress code, destination, or event. We can create a complete look using custom clothing, pieces from your existing wardrobe, and carefully selected ready-to-wear additions.
-
Because a great wardrobe isn't simply a collection of great clothes. It's a collection of pieces that work for you—and with one another.
Ward & Vale considers the entire picture: your proportions, coloring, lifestyle, profession, preferences, existing wardrobe, and where you're going.
The result is fewer compromises, fewer unnecessary purchases, and a wardrobe that becomes easier to wear over time.
